Abstract
GARCIA-ANCIRA, Claudia; CASTILLO-ELIZONDO, Jaime Arturo and SALINAS-REYNA, Idalia María. Monitoring the Engineering Students Social Services Through the Nexus Platform. Educare [online]. 2016, vol.20, n.2, pp.292-314. ISSN 1409-4258. http://dx.doi.org/10.15359/ree.20-2.15.
The Social Service is a mandatory program whereby university students give work back to society, in order to compensate the knowledge acquired with its help. The Mechanical and Electrical Engineering School (FIME, by its acronym in Spanish) of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL, by its acronym in Spanish), implemented a strategy to adopt the new educational model that establishes the Social Service as a subject, based on the virtual platform Nexus. The article, a descriptive one, aims to present the preliminary results of the implementation of the Social Service as a subjectmatter, during which, the students develop an improvement project. An intentional sample, with the most outstanding projects of the studied period was chosen. The results show that students are capable of proposing positive solutions that improve the problems found in their environment. On the other hand, the strategy of Social Service as a subject represents several advantages as a more flexible schedule, skills assessment, personalized tutoring and active participation through integrating projects.
