Resumen

GUEVARA-VIQUEZ, Federico; NERCIS-SANCHEZ, Ignolio  y  OVARES-BARQUERO, Sandra. Teachers of Language and Culture: A Thoughtful Look and Review of the Costa Rican Indigenous Education. Educare [online]. 2015, vol.19, n.2, pp.317-332. ISSN 1409-4258.

This essay is part of the products from the Reconstruction of Knowledge project -attached to the Division of Rural Education of the National University of Costa Rica. This work seeks to create a thoughtful look regarding the existing indigenous education model in Costa Rica in general- and particularly in Talamanca. A methodology based on collaborative action research with indigenous teachers in the region of Talamanca Bribri and Talamanca Cabécar was used as a starting point. This methodology combined focus group discussions and individual interviews with a qualitative approach that allowed generating a series of critical impressions about the education system where they work. All this will lead to a summary of insights and specific recommendations that would strengthen the educational system for the indigenous population of Talamanca and would allow moving towards a true model of Intercultural Bilingual Education.

Palabras clave : Intercultural Bilingual Education; Indigenous teachers; indigenous education.
