Resumen

Objective:

A thematic review of the challenges training of human resources to primary health care in Latin America. Methods: the search was performed in SciELO, LILACS, Science Direct, Pubmed and Cochrane databases. The descriptors used were: primary health care, human resources training, personal health, Latin America, teaching institutions were used higher education.

Results:

Is necessary to train teachers in primary health care and strengthen the commitment of these in different faculties of health, seeking their linkage from clinical practice and the generation of appropriation thematic spaces and include core curriculum content for training in primary health care.

Conclusions:

One of the key challenges posed by Latin America health systems is to provide them with human resources in sufficient numbers and properly trained. It is required motivated health professionals respect to the community work and family medicine, focusing on primary health care. Health professionals involved in the teams during training practices, that engaged in activities that trascend through comprehensive care of patients and trained to apply the primary care focus in the social determinants of health. This is necessary in order to achieve the Millennium Development Goals and universal health coverage.
