Abstract

Objective: To describe theoretical elements on the social determinants of health in the informal working population and their social conditions, ways of life and impact on the health-disease process. Search strategy: A literature review of articles in specialized databases was conducted (Ovid, Proquest, Hinary, Medline, LILACS, “gray literature”) with the following keyword search strategies: social conditions, socioeconomic factors, labor force, employment; likewise texts are taken up experts who have searched for conceptual development in this topic. Development: Informality at work acts as a social determinant of health and conditions the health-disease process, through interaction with other structural and intermediate determinants such as age, gender, educational level, socioeconomic status, among others. The economic development of the material productive forces of a country determines the process of social and political life of the people. Conclusion: Healthy and decent working conditions cannot be guaranteed in informal work; therefore this type of work, does not favor the right to health and decent work for laborers.
