TOBON MARULANDA, Flor Ángela; RAMIREZ VILLEGAS, John Fernando and JIMENEZ CARTAGENA, Claudio. Consumer Conceptions of College Students of Psychotropic Consumption Sgents as a Public Health Problem in Medellín, Colombia. Rev. costarric. salud pública [online]. 2013, vol.22, n.2, pp.119-126. ISSN 1409-1429.
Objective:To research the perceptions of college students consuming psychotropic agents with regard to university policy, in order to intervened his public multicausal health problem. Methods: The case study was conducted with 45 students chosen for convenience; we applied a semi structured voluntary and anonymous interview survey and the Zung test was applied. Results: We noted a correlation between consumption and psychosocial variables as reasons to consume and its implication. The Zung test showed no evidence of association between use of psychotropic drugs and depression. It is concluded that there is co-responsibility of those involved in the incidence of this serious public health problem. Conclusions: This study points out short comings of the university authorities on how to address the problem. Competent authorities should establish greater intersectoral engagement and response to regulatory demands from the scientific, educational, health professionals and students, in order to respond appropriately to a problem that is both old and new within the university.
