TRONCOSO PANTOJA, Claudia; DELGADO SEGURA, Delia  e  RUBILAR VILLALOBOS, Carolina. Adherence to treatment in patients with Diabetes type 2. Rev. costarric. salud pública [online]. 2013, vol.22, n.1, pp.09-13. ISSN 1409-1429.

DM2 is a condition of exponential growth in recent years. Due to this fact, intensified DM2 control has become a plea in health programs for this population. However, there is a lack of adherence to treatment. Consequently, efforts made by medical teams are repeatedly frustrated in the light of this scenario. Objective: To interpret the perception of factors that determine adherence to prescribed treatment in adults with DM2 attending the Family Health Center in La Floresta, Hualpén, Chile, during the months of March and April 2012. Methods: Phenomenological qualitative study was employed, using semi-structured interviews in a total of 11 patients who met the selection criteria. Analysis of the results was performed using the technique of “semantic analysis”. Results: Results emphasize the importance that users confer to medications and the completion of the diet; however, the latter is not actually carried out effectively by the patients. Exercise is not interpreted as part of their therapy. Discussion: In conclusion, users with DM2 treated using an ambulatory method carry out an inadequate adherence to non-pharmacological treatment due to various factors, such as, failure to comply with diet therapeutical indications or the inadequate interpretation of physical exercise as part of their therapy.
