SILVA TREJOS, Paulina. Copper content in food consumption Costa Rican by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy and microwave digestion. Rev. costarric. salud pública [online]. 2012, vol.21, n.2, pp.92-95. ISSN 1409-1429.

Objective: The purpose of this research is to quantify the copper content in foods of the consumption basket of Costa Rica. Materials and methods: The samples of food were processedaccordingtothepatterninCostaRica, theoptimum amount of HNO3. 65 % optimal for digestion in microwave was determinate by evaluating the recoveries. Quantification of cooper was performed on the digested samples by atomic absorption spectroscopy flame, measurements were made at 324,7 nm in air-acetylene flame. Copper solutions were prepared from solution JT Baker traceable to NIST ® with a concentration (1000 ± 1) mg / L to 5 % HNO3. The standards for the calibration curve was prepared in the field (0,030 to 6,00) mg / L. Discussion: The standards for the calibration curve was prepared in the field (0,030 to 6,00) mg / L, according to copper concentrations in the samples analyzed. The statistical parameters for the calibration curve correlation coefficient was 1,000, the detection and quantification limits, according to Meir & Zund (0,015 ± 0,001) mg/L and (0,030 ± 0,002) mg/L, respectively. The foods with copper concentrations quantifiable were: beef liver, carrots, potatoes, lentils, chickpeas, beans, rice and beans, chicken egg and milk powder.
