Resumen

Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the parturitions and abortions given in the Department of Obstetrics of the Hospital Mexico, from January 2002 to December 2004. Methods: Descriptive study of the parturitions and abortions given in the Hospital Mexico which included 16149 patients of the Department of Obstetrics. Results: A decrease in the percentage of abortions leading to an increase in the percentage of normal parturitions in 2004 compared to 2002 and 2003 was observed; while the percentage of abortions was approximately 10% during 2002 and 2003 but during 2004 it decreased to 8.4 %. The total amount of abortions registered in 2002,2003, 2004 was 587,471 and 437 respectively. During the period of study a reduction in the percentage of incomplete abortions was observed, while an increase in spontaneous and induced abortions took place. Conclusion: There is a trend to a decrease in the percentage of abortions, which is quite positive in terms of health system indicators; also, there was a change in the types of abortions that took place during the period of the study.
