Abstract

ARROYO SANCHEZ, Gloriana. Violencia de pareja y la responsabilidad del personal de salud. Med. leg. Costa Rica [online]. 2016, vol.33, n.1, pp.133-138. ISSN 2215-5287.

Intimate partner violence is a pattern of assaultive and coercive behaviors perpetrated by a person who was or is in a relationship with another person. It occurs worldwide with incidence rates that vary from country to country and has a wide range of manifestations, from very obvious acute physical injuries such as lacerations and bruises to health consequences with a latent presentation, somatization or effects on the psychological level and self-esteem.

There are several barriers to reporting such violence by the victims, so that a clear understanding of the indicators of aggression by the medical professional or health care givers in general in charge of the attention of these people, is essential and very useful for the identification and subsequent counsel of the victim as well as reference to the appropriate institutions.

Keywords : Domestic violence; intimate partner violence; health care; violence indicators; responsibility.
