Abstract

CARVAJAL CARVAJAL, Carlos. Tejido adiposo, obesidad e insulino resistencia. Med. leg. Costa Rica [online]. 2015, vol.32, n.2, pp.138-144. ISSN 2215-5287.

Human white adipose tissue plays a pivotal role in maintaining whole-body energy homeostasis by storing triglycerides and secreting adipokines that are important for regulating lipid and glucose metabolism. Adipose dysfunction in obesity include secretions of abnormal levels of cytokines linked to insulin resistance, impairments in triglyceride storage and increases in lipolysis. These abnormalities in turn can contribute to increased fatty acids in the circulation and lead to an overload of fatty acids in the skeletal muscle and the liver. Such increases in fatty acids in these compartments are likely to cause decreased responsiveness to insulin in these tissue in obesity.

Keywords : Obesity; insulin resistance; adipokine; adipose tissue.
