This work describes the presence of neural tube defect known asanencephaly associated with cleft palate and cleft lip in one casedissection of a fetus in the School of Medicine, University of Costa Rica. It also reviews the issue and its clinical significance from an embryological, molecular, preventive and incidence data aproach in Costa Rica
