Abstract

University populations have and high consume of energizing drinks, this is associated with a high demand of work and stress within them. Caffeine is still the substance with the highest abuse even though the marketing of these products has been increasing. Although the secondary effects are frequent the consumption of these substances remains high. There is also a new tendency Costa Rica which consists on mixing these energetic drinks with alcohol. The stimulant drinks with the highest intake, in order of preference are: coffe, Coca Cola®, Pepsi® and Red Bull®. More than the half of the participants had secondary effects, the most common was palpitations. These study shows that there is the necessity to make changes of some laws to ensure the consumer wellbeing
