Abstract
VARGAS SANABRIA, Maikel. Muertes por intoxicación accidental aguda por alcohol y drogas de abuso en Costa Rica entre 2006 y 2010. Med. leg. Costa Rica [online]. 2011, vol.28, n.2, pp.7-21. ISSN 2215-5287.
In this paper we have analized all autopsies made by the Departamento de Medicina Legal de Costa Rica (a total of 15642) during the period between years 2006 and 2010. We extracted all acute intoxications by ethylic alcohol o abuse drugs (overdoses). The most common profile of the victims was: male, age between 30 and 59, deaths occurred predominantly during weekends, in the months of January and December, in the provinces of Guanacaste and San José. If the victim was costarrician or Nicaraguan the cause of death was ethylic acute intoxication. If the victim was American or European the cause of death was acute drug intoxication (overdose) by cocaine or heroin. Also, we found that the recent mortality rates by overdoses have been growing.
Keywords : Overdose; ethylic acute intoxication; abuse substances; mortality rates.
