Gastric physiology constitutes a complex and dynamic interaction between anatomic structures, their secretions, the environment around and the exogenous factors provided by the individual. This work pretends to offer a brief actualized literature review about the physiology of the gastric secretions and gastric motility. We will expose the function of the main gastric mucosa cells, its secretions and the substances, hormones and neurotransmitters that enhance, modify and inhibit them, making special emphasis in the gastric acid secretion. Moreover, the subject of gastric motility, specifically, will be explained with identical methodology.
