Abstract

Since its inception and until today, forensic science has contributed to the administration of justice throughout the world. In Costa Rica, the Department of Legal Medicine, through its various sections, is responsible for the examinations and forensic consultations where knowledge of which corresponds to the "Organismo de Investigación Judicial" and more specifically through the Pathology Section Forensic when assistance is required to scenes of death and the conduct of autopsies. Due to the importance of death scene as a first step in the process of autopsy providing information valuable to the understanding of the findings of the autopsy and its importance in determining the cause and manner of death, it is necessary to clarify the definition of both concepts and the minimum characteristics and parameters of each one that allows achieving them with the utmost care and dedication to be unique and unrepeatable process.
