Abstract

The Blood from the umbilical cord (UCB) is one of the sources most wanted to obtain stem cell (SC) due to the present of group of multipotential embrionary cells. There has been found within the UCB SC capable of transform into differents kinds of cells, like osteoblasts, chondroblasts, adiposytes, and neural cell, beta cells and cardiac cells. UCB has more SC than bone marrow and peripheral blood. In this paper we present an actuallized panorama about stem cells and its clinical application. One of the most important application is reposition of cells with low ability of reproduction in human body, like neurons and cardiac cells.
