This essay presents two frustrated cases of supplantation detected during paternity testing procedures in the Forensic Genetic Unit of the Biochemistry Section of the Department of Forensic Sciences of the Judicial Authority of Costa Rica. Different aspects concerning the security currently involved in the DNA testing process, in order to avoid that deliberate actions would affect the chain of custody and the presentation of laboratory results in court are also discussed.
