Resumen

SALAZAR MONTERO, Damaris. Relación del consumo de drogas en el hogar y los problemas de aprendizaje de los niños de aula recurso en las escuelas públicas de Costa Rica. Med. leg. Costa Rica [online]. 1998, vol.15, n.1-2, pp.28-35. ISSN 2215-5287.

The relation between drugs consume and learning problems in the special classes on the public schools in Costa Rica. There is a majority of boys in the special classes. But the survey shows that women are must likely to be the legal guardians of the child due to the time the interview was done, most of the legal guardians were married. The school level of most of the guardians was an unfinished elementary. This situation brings a very poor academic orientation from parents and not a very accurate help on their child's homework. Even though is not an accurate help, the mothers are the ones helping in the school duties of their children. The principal reason to asist to a special class is the problem with reading and writting , and it was pointed out by both students and parents. The totality of interview children knew why they had to asist to special classes, but most of the parents didn't. This situation shows that children know exactly the conditions that make them have a low academic performance, while their parents are are totally clueless about the attention and help the kids most receive. The majority of kids live in a home formed by parents and brothers or sisters, and they are ussually the middle child. In some houses there are more than one child assisting to a special school. In most of the homes there are not family problems at all, but when they come up they affect way too much the child, specially in thier academis performance. Most parents pointed this out (family problems) as a reason for their child low performance at school, while others know that their children suffer from neurological problems that affect their school duties. On the other hand, the children admit having learning problems, and that their performance in school is due to the difficulty of the subject. Another reason parents propouse is that the students don't like to study, but children say that's not true. They attribute their low academis performance to school problems, such as fights and discomfot with their teachers. The communication between parents and children about their school problems is very poor, mainly because parents resign to their children silence. This poor comunication is due to the lack of love the children receive that does not allow them to express their feelings. Alcohol is the drug most of the students are related to, mainly because a male role in their homes consumes it. Alcohol is the most common drug among their homes, too, and its mostly in homes where there are more than one child with learning problems. Family problems occured mainly when the couple is married. Now, independently from family problems, the main reason for a low academic performance, among children with parents that consume alcohol, is the difficulty in writting and reading.
