ROBLES-OBANDO, Natalia. Supply chain optimization model that incorporates its impact on climate change. Tecnología en Marcha [online]. 2017, vol.30, n.4, pp.118-129. ISSN 0379-3982.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18845/tm.v30i4.3416.

An optimization model of a supply chain network is proposed in this research, aimed to analyze the impact of decisions on the supply chain, to assure sustainable development in terms of climate change. This optimization model was carried out by way of a mixed integer linear programming problem which was solved by goal programming. The model developed in this research differs from traditional supply chain network models because, in addition to economic indicators, it incorporates carbon emissions as an environmental indicator to value and mitigate climate change.

The model was applied to the supply chain network of a refreshment produced and commercialized in Costa Rica. Among the results obtained, it was found that the configuration related to an environmental indicator, carbon emissions, may differ from that obtained by optimizing costs alone. In addition, it was possible to define a supply chain network to reduce carbon emissions without resulting in a significant operating cost increment. Capable of disclosing actions to mitigate climate change, the model constitutes an advantageous tool for commercial enterprises as well as for ambient policy regulation entities.

Palavras-chave : Carbon emissions; carbon footprint; sustainable supply chains; goal programming.
