Abstract

PEREZ-LOPEZ, Esteban  and  ROJAS ALVARADO, Priscilla. Implementation of a method for the determination of sodium in parenteral solutions by flame photometry. Tecnología en Marcha [online]. 2017, vol.30, n.4, pp.93-107. ISSN 0379-3982.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18845/tm.v30i4.3414.

The study consisted in the implementation of an analytical method for the determination of sodium in parenteral solutions by flame photometry in a pharmaceutical laboratory in Costa Rica. First, a verification of the instrument was carried out, carrying out tests with controls to monitor the stability in the measurement. Subsequently, the official method established by the United States Pharmacopoeia was compared with the photometric method implemented in the study. Next, the method was validated, evaluating the linearity, repeatability, intermediate precision, specificity and accuracy of the method, obtaining that the method provides accurate and accurate results. In addition, a study of three different batches was performed for the two products under study (0.9% NaCl, 0.9% NaCl and 5% Dextrose) with the implemented method, obtaining that the analyzed parenteral solutions comply with the specifications (90-110%).

Keywords : Sodium; flame photometry; parenteral solutions; validation of methods.
