Problems originated by global warming determine the necessity to practice a sustainable development regardless of the economic activity, and tourism is not the exception. The research project summarized here is a comparative analysis of two sustainability standards: Costa Rica and Colombia. Environmental components that determine sustainable development were considered in this analysis, such as environment, and economic and social aspects. The standards mentioned were “Sustainable Tourism Certification” for Costa Rica and “Quality Tourism Certificate / Environmental Seal” for Colombia, in both countries focused on hotels and travel agencies.
