Abstract

QUESADA-SOJO, Kevin Asdrúbal  and  RIVERA-MENDEZ, William. Isolation, identification and pathogenicity of Hirsutella in Planococcus citri. Tecnología en Marcha [online]. 2016, vol.29, suppl.3, pp.74-84. ISSN 0379-3982.  http://dx.doi.org//10.18845/tm.v29i7.2708.

Fungal species belonging to the genus Hirsutella are capable to infect and parasite a wide variety of pathogen invertebrates. Planococcus citri is an important polyphagous plague in various crops of agronomic importance. The project objective was to conduct a study related to processes of isolation, identification and pathogenicity determination of Hirsutella genus over P. citri from 21 field samples. The mycelium was produced on PDA solid medium acidified (2%), which covered the plate at 11 days being cultivated. A conidiogenous solution was prepared from the mycelium and was sprinkled on adult life stage individuals of P. citri to determine the percentages of pathogenicity of isolates. These were: 90%, 78,6% and 90,9% at 6 days after of begin the bioassay, which confirm the biocontrol qualities of the genus Hirsutella for its use in handling both P. citri as other agronomically important pests.

Keywords : Hirsutella; Planococcus citri; host; biological control; mealybug.
