In the last decades it has experimented a boom in the research and the application of technics for biological control of pest and diseases. The penetration of this kind of production technologies are reflected in the changes observed in the global market for biopesticides. The research about biological control agents (BCA’s) and the emergence of enterprises and microorganisms-based products seem reaffirm the trend. The publication’s objective is analyze, focused on sustainable development, the recent introduction of microbiological control in the Central American agriculture. It discusses about the effects of the expansion in the use of the technology in the social, economic and environmental sphere. It lists the challenges that several actors and sectors linked must deal if they wish this technology be inclusive, efficient and competitive. It concludes that although microbiological control is still in develop, it could transform in option for change our agricultural systems highly dependent of synthetic inputs in sustainable productive systems.
