Abstract

SALAZAR-ROJAS, Teresa; PORRAS-ACOSTA, María; VAQUERANO PINEDA, Nicolás  and  QUIROS-ROJAS, Alexia. Estimation of the methanogenic potencial of cordornaza considering the variables of dilution, nutrients addition and codigestion. Tecnología en Marcha [online]. 2016, vol.29, n.4, pp.102-110. ISSN 0379-3982.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18845/tm.v29i4.3041.

The biogas has gain relevance over the years as a CO2 neutral fuel option due to its low CO2 emissions. It is used for heating and energy generation or could also be used as an additive for car fuel. This article details the estimate of the methanogenic potential of the codornaza taking into account dilution, addition of nutrients and codigestion variables; based on the measurement of the biogas by the water displacement methodology and the use of codornaza in codigestion with banana waste.

The results gathered after diluting the samples showed that, among the three diluted samples from the codornaza substrate, the dilution at 40% generated the highest production of methane.

Experimental dilutions guarantee that the biogas potential from the substrate won’t be underestimated due to overload or inhibition from the potential. By adding nutrients to the biogas production process, they helped to obtain a higher volume of methane gas. However, this variable was proven not to be fundamental to obtain a good performance in the methane production with the substrate used. Moreover, the codornaza proved to be a good substrate for the codigestion of banana waste.

Keywords : Methanogenic potential; codornaza; codigestion.
