Abstract

MOREIRA-SEGURA, Cristian; ARAYA-RODRIGUEZ, Freddy  and  CHARPENTIER-ESQUIVEL, Claudia. Environmental education for water conservation through a statistical analysis of variables. Tecnología en Marcha [online]. 2015, vol.28, n.3, pp.74-85. ISSN 0379-3982.

This article shows the main elements that justify and reinforce the need to implement a environmental education proposal by taking the community as an starting and ending point. For this purpose, a questionnaire was applied to 262 residents of three communities in the Northern Region Costa Rica. These people are both, a source of information and the receptors of the products generated in an educational process and research. This paper confirms that an environmental education plan for water conservation should consider variables such as the disposition, behavior and competencies in order to understand their interrelationships and how they affect environmental action. The results suggest that although there is an adequate disposition, the environmental actions for water conservation are scarce. That is, they lack the adequate competences to accomplish environmental actions.

Keywords : Water resources; environmental education; rural communities; path analysis.
