Abstract

MARIN ROJAS, Rafael A  and  DUARTE SIBAJA, María O.. Fenotipos, genotipos y genes del sistema Diego en Costa Rica. Rev. costarric. cienc. méd [online]. 1997, vol.18, n.3, pp.43-45. ISSN 0253-2948.

For the investigation of the phenotypes, genotypes and genes distribution of the Diego system, we analized 554 blood samples of individuals from all country provinces. The study revealed that 1.08% was positive for Dia and 98.92% was negative for this factor. This value correspons to a phenotypical frecuency of 0.003% for Di (a+b-), 1.074% for Di (a+b+) and 98.923% for Di (a-b+). This implies an allelic frecuency of 0.0054 for Dia. and 0.9946 for Dib. . This distribution indicates that this system has litle clinical and forensic significance in Costa Rica because of the polarized prevalence of this alleles. These findings are not unexpected in a population with a scant mongoloid extration.
