A case of complete sternal cleft in a newborn is presented. The child was transfered to the National Children's Hospital "Carlos Salazar Herrera" for the surgical correction of the defect. The patient was operated three times for the definitive repair therapy of the cleft sternum. The sternal cleft is of unkown aetiology, with low incidence and is commonly asociated with other middle line defects.
