Abstract

VARGAS F., Mauricio; CIFUENTES P., Sandra  and  EMPARANZA M., Esteban. Espectro trófico de peces concurrentes al área de crianza Playa Chipana (21°19'S - 70°04'W) del norte de Chile. Rev. biol. trop [online]. 1999, vol.47, n.3, pp.597-600. ISSN 0034-7744.

A total of 361 fishes including Odonthestes regia, Paralabrax humeralis, Isacia conceptionis, Cilus gilberti, Menticirrhus ophicephalus, Sciaena deliciosa and Scomber japonicus were collected in the nursery area Playa Chipana (21°19'S), northern Chile, from August 1989 through December 1990 in order determine their feeding habits. Both planctonic and benthonic preys were determined in the trophic spectrum for seven species, for which the main foods (MFI) were crustaceans (zoea, miscidaceans, Emerita analoga, Ogyrides tarazonai) and fishes (Engraulis ringens, Odonthestes regia, Normanichthys croockeri). Three trophic guilds were preliminarily identificated: 1.- carcinophagous fishes, 2.- ichthiophagous fishes, and 3.- planctophagous fishes.

Keywords : Feeding habits; coastal fishes; nursery area; Playa Chipana; north of Chile.
