Abstract
TORRES-CUEVAS, Boris; CASTILLO-LARA, Gloria and HANCCO-HUILLCA, Sonia. Case report: Carotid jugular fistula: an uncommon complication of central venous access. Acta méd. costarric [online]. 2021, vol.63, n.1, pp.61-65. ISSN 0001-6002.
Carotid-jugular fistula is one of the uncommon complications of jugular vein catheterization. It can have serious complications such as infection, embolization, and high output cardiac failure and requires invasive repair. We describe a case of uncommon carotid artery jugular vein artiovenous fistula following the insertion of a catheter for cardiac study during childhood, with 40 years of evolution without complications in relationship with post catheterism fistula.
Keywords : Arteriovenous fistula; carotid artery injuries; central venous catheters.
