Abstract

An analysis of the indications of cochlear implants is made from its beginning. Initially it was only indicated in post-lingual adults with bilateral deep deafness of cochlear origin. The evolution of the cochlear implant over time and its good results, opened new indications in different age groups, from infants of months to seniors. Likewise, the implantation was originally unilateral, now, in many cases, the indication is bilateral implanted simultaneously or sequential, obeying different types of sensorineural hearing loss of cochlear origin, either unilateral or bilateral, and with or without auditory remains.
