Resumen

ALVAREZ-AGUILAR, Pablo. Acute effects of exercise on blood pressure. Therapeutic implications in hypertensive patients. Acta méd. costarric [online]. 2015, vol.57, n.4, pp.163-171. ISSN 0001-6002.

The approach to hypertension is made on several fronts, but medical personnel may underestimate nonpharmacological treatment. Exercise therapy can help control the blood pressure of hypertensive patients and reduce their need for medication, improve quality of life, reduce cardiovascular mortality and comorbidities. Mastering the basics of exercise prescription in hypertensive patients is a tool with a high therapeutic potential and should be handled by any general practitioner. This work addresses the physiological mechanisms involved in post-exercise hypotension and the basis of prescribing an exercise plan in hypertensive patients.

Palabras clave : exercise; hypertension; post-exercise hypotension.
