Abstract

HUERTAS-FRANCO, Verny  and  LACAYO-PALLAIS, María Isabel. Pneumonia due to Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. Acta méd. costarric [online]. 2014, vol.56, n.1, pp.27-30. ISSN 0001-6002.

Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is an emergent gram negative bacillus present in the environment. It has acquired relevance within a group of multidrug-resistant microorganisms as a cause of infection in different organs, both in hospitals and outside them. A case of respiratory failure with severe pneumonia due to S. maltophilia is reported. The immunocompetent patient got infected in the community and had a rapid response to trimethoprim sulphametoxazol once the bacteria were cultured
