Abstract

Sixty to 84% of cancer patients develop bone metas tases. Of this 79% have difficult to treat bone pain syndromes, of which 50% die without adequate pain control. It is necessary to have accessible and effective drugs in the market to improve the quality of life in these patients. The objective of this paper is to review the pathophysiology of bone pain and the drugs used today in the palliation of bone cancer pain. In addition a 6 step algorithmic approach is given to help the physicians engaged in the management of this condition.
