WATSON-GUIDO, William; FUENTES-ALFARO, Rachel  e  MADRIGAL-RUEDA, Jorge. Isolation and identification of Ascochyta phaseolorum from a field of S. edule in Costa Rica. Tecnología en Marcha [online]. 2016, vol.29, suppl.3, pp.15-21. ISSN 0379-3982.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18845/tm.v29i7.2701.

The chayote (S. edule) has increased its production in recent years, with the export of fruit as an important source of income for national producers. However, this gourd is attacked by Ascochyta phaseolorum, which generates white spots on the fruits that cause significant losses for producers. To prevent such damage is important to have appropriate measures of control, which are based on the accurate identification of the pathogen. Therefore, the overall objective of this research was to implement a methodology for identification by light microscopy and molecular methods that allow accurate identification of the pathogen from plant material of chayote field for future work to control this disease. The methodology identified at the molecular level with a high percentage of certainty that the pathogen belongs to the genus Ascochyta, identification by light microscopy-based structures revealed that this pathogen is A. phaseolorum.
