El objetivo del artículo es hacer un seguimiento histórico de la Organización de Estados Centroamericanos (ODECA), entre 1951-1991. Para ello, se utilizaron fuentes generadas por dicha organización, en especial la Secretaría General. En el artículo se evidencia que la ODECA ha sido el esquema de integración más completo dentro de las iniciativas generadas en la región desde el siglo XIX. Se concluye que el clima sociopolítico de la región entre 1960 y 1980, así como la prioridad de los Estados centroamericanos por la integración económica le restaron vigencia y vida a la ODECA.

The objective of the article is to historically follow up on the Organization of Central American States (ODECA), between 1951-1991. Sources generated by this organization, particularly by the General Secretariat, were used. The article shows that the ODECA has been the most comprehensive integration scheme within the initiatives of the region between 1960 and 1980; the priority of the Central American States for economic integration detracted from validity and life of the ODECA.
