La crisis nicaragüense demanda una interrogación del autoritarismo en su larga duración. Al respecto, en este artículo reflexionamos en torno a dos problemáticas: la primera es que las genealogías de autoridad conducen reiteradamente al fracaso de la política y, consecuentemente, al recurso de la violencia; la segunda es la significativa contribución de las élites a la persistencia del autoritarismo, ya sea cooptando el funcionamiento democrático de las instituciones o bien reforzando una cultura de pactos evidente en contextos de crisis y transición política. Un futuro políticamente sostenible pasa por cuestionar la esencia de la política, tal y como la hemos elaborado social y culturalmente.

The Nicaraguan crisis demands an interrogation of authoritarianism in its long duration. In this regard, in this article we reflect on two problems: first, genealogies of authority repeatedly lead to the failure of politics and, consequently, to the use of violence; second, the significant contribution of elites to the persistence of authoritarianism, by co-opting the democratic functioning of institutions or by strengthening a culture of pacts evident in contexts of crisis and political transition. A politically sustainable future involves questioning the essence of politics, as we have built it socially and culturally.
