INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Its main objective is to disseminate research results are presented at each  Reunión Anual del Programa Cooperativo Centroamericano para el Mejoramiento de Cultivos y Animales (PCCMCA).

1. Papers should have a maximum of 20 double-spaced pages. 3. The author must state that the work is original and has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. In addition, once submitted for publication in Agronomy Journal Mesoamerican, also must be submitted for publication in other journals.

4. The papers submitted for publication must be approved for publication, of the institution or company where research took place. You assume all authors participated in the drafting work, and authorized to submit it for publication. The content is the responsibility of the authors.

5. The author must indicate whether their work is considered an article, technical note, analysis and comments and review of the literature, however, the decision on location will be taken based on the arbitration agreement made and the Editorial Board. It automatically reject all field work with a single evaluation period (day or year) on crops and a widely studied subject and known (sowing, planting distances, etc.).

6. All work submitted for publication will be reviewed by at least two specialists before being submitted for approval by the Editorial Board. If the article is accepted, the author with whom we have established the communication should make the corrections requested by the Editor, and send the job again, indicating the corrections made in a different font color (version on CD or emailed ) or stressed for shipments of print. Be accepted for analysis of the Editorial, the author answers with which communication is maintained on the corrections or additions to work, however, the Editorial Committee's decision is final and non-compliance entails the rejection of the paper for publication . Will be given a period of 10 working days to send corrections. 8. The names of pesticides should be written with the common name followed by the chemical name in parenthesis. Not accept the use of trade names of pesticides, except special formulations that they affect the results.

9. Arabic numerals are used for all numbers with two or more digits, and units of measurement. The number is written in words if the first word of a sentence, or if less than 10 and does not indicate a measure.

10. Accepted for publication Special Editions, which are single issue, such as coffee nutrition. The format may vary slightly from proposed below (see Volume 15 Number 3, Special Issue on nutrition in beans). The costs of these publications will be paid by the interested parties or organizations.

11. All work must include the following sections

TITLE: The title should be concise and not exceed 14 words with an asterisk indicate if the work was part of a thesis, project, etc. We suggest avoiding the use of scientific names in the title when the common name is well known (beans, corn, potato, tomato, etc.).. It must use the scientific name when the common name is not known or can vary between countries (names of weeds, fungi, insects, etc.)..
SUMMARY TITLE: for page header, should not exceed eight words.

AUTHORS: Give the full name and surname. Footnotes should include postal and email addresses of all authors, and indicate the institution where they work. The first author is considered the largest contribution to the investigation that led to the work submitted for publication and preferably who writes it. The total number of authors should not exceed six.

INTRODUCTION: You must include the purpose of research, the most relevant background and specific objective. Importance of the problem within the framework of study, research limitations. All information must be backed up by references that are accessible through documentation centers, libraries or Internet. If more than two authors, put et al. after the first name. Eg a) "... the methodology proposed by Gómez et al.." b) ... This method was similar to other authors (Hartman 1974, Jackson et al. 1977). Any mention of plants or animals must include their scientific name, and when it is part of what is learned at work, must also indicate biological classification. Any further indication of a scientific name will start with only the genre of the species. All scientific names must be italicized. (Check terminology: International Association for Plant Taxonomy IAPT International Code of Botanical Nomenclature). The generic names used as common names are not capitalized: eg beans, maize, etc.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: These are the basic elements of research and generating results. Materials (soils, plants, seeds, cattle, goats, etc..) Should be clearly described (physical and chemical analysis and soil type. Description of the variety of plant used and its origin. Characteristics of animal used, including its origin, type, age, etc.. The methods should clearly indicate the variables to be measured accurately and therefore should include experimental design, experimental unit, sampling method and type of statistical analysis. Description of the treatments and measurement of variables . Cultural practices and management of the experiment. Moreover, the location of research in space, time and weather conditions, if applicable.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: We present and analyze the information obtained. Data derived from the application of the methodology, in a clear, orderly and complete, yet concise, based on findings and not assumptions, should be expressed separately in figures or tables (included in an additional file data originated for the purpose of the diagram). Should not be repeated in the text the information contained in tables or figures. Be described in the text, the information obtained from the analysis of variance.

PAINTINGS, DRAWINGS, PHOTOS, DRAWINGS AND MAPS: Must have a title that explains their own, independent of the text. It must clearly identify the information provided, geographic areas was conducted (province (s)), as well as period or year of implementation. Tables should preferably have little condensed format instead of a complicated, difficult to interpret. Do not repeat the information in tables and figures should choose the form best communicates the desired information. Photos should be sent in separate file, with a minimum resolution of 250 dpi and JPG format. Tables, figures, photos and maps should appear immediately after a mention. Under no circumstances are accepted as attachments or appendices. All kinds of abbreviations, except for universal use, should clarify at the foot of the table or figure.

Figures and photos can include color in the CD and website, and black and white in the printed version, if the author wishes color should cover the cost of color separation of pictures and illustrations. If not covered the cost of printing, the author must provide the figures and photographs so that they are readable in black and white. This because the shades are problems of definition in black and white printing. The numbering of the tables, figures and photos are processed independently for each of them. Figures pictures and photos with a few exceptions will be located in a space the width of a column by which you must use figures and tables that can reduce the width of the column without losing clarity. Should not be sent in plain boxes contained.

CONCLUSIONS: There may be optionally statements derived from the results and should not exceed the scope of these, or being short or being repeated with the results or discussion. Are justified when presented as a summary of the results that support or differ from the assumptions proposed in the introduction.

SUMMARY: Include the purpose of this study, the procedure followed, the main results and a basic discussion. Do not include references or citations, figures or tables. The maximum size is 250 word-spaced and in a single paragraph.

KEY WORDS: Include five key words in English and Spanish. The goal is to use in indexing and selection of bibliographic information. They should not include words in the title.

ABSTRACT: Translation into English of the summary, including job title.

ABBREVIATIONS AND SYMBOLS: The Mesoamerican Agronomy Journal only accepts the official rules of the international system of weights and measures (Carazo, M. 1987. International system of weights and Ed medidas.2 Cartago, Costa Rica, Editorial Tecnológica de Costa Rica. 151 p.) and indicated for this purpose by the Royal Spanish Academy (eg for the separation of the decimal point shall be used as long as the work is in Spanish).

LITERATURE CITED, should contribute to knowledge on the subject and be as recent as possible, easy access via documentation centers, libraries or the Internet and are formulated based on the rules of IICA *. All references, which was included in the text (introduction, materials and methods and results and conclusions) must appear in this section. All appointments must have the total of authors, year of publication, full title and original work, and information about the document was published, edition, publisher, place of publication, volume and number, number of pages. The authors are placed in capital letters, and then last name first name initial, all authors. Personal communications are not part of the literature cited, which are placed at the foot of the page. The citations obtained from the Internet, should be preferably of periodicals or books.
